What Mersin 10 Means in North Cyprus Addresses

Is Mersin 10 a postcode?

The first time you see “Mersin 10, Turkey” at the end of a university, government or company address in North Cyprus, it reads as though the place is somewhere in Mersin. It is not. The physical location is in North Cyprus. Mersin 10 is a postal line used at the end of addresses routed to North Cyprus.

North Cyprus has its own five-digit postcodes, published by region by the Postal Department. Mersin 10 does not stand in for them. Two separate pieces of information can sit in the same address:

So writing only “Mersin 10” and dropping the street, the district and the local postcode does not give you a working address.

In what order do you write a North Cyprus address?

Unless the sending organisation asks for a different format, this order works:

That is an invented example. On a real item, use the Postal Department’s current postcode list and the address the recipient gave you, exactly as given.

The Philatelic Service of the TRNC Postal Department publishes its own English address as “Sarayönü Street, 1st floor, Lefkoşa, Mersin-10 TURKEY”. Institutions such as METU Northern Cyprus Campus also show the Mersin 10 line after their North Cyprus location on their official contact pages.

Is it “Mersin-10” or “Mersin 10”?

Both spellings appear on official pages. The safest approach when writing to an institution, a campus or a business is to copy the form given on that recipient’s own official contact page, without tidying it up. The hyphen makes no difference to the five-digit postcode inside North Cyprus and does not create a new code.

If the address reached you by message, confirm more than the spelling: check the recipient or department name too. On large campuses and in big institutions, the correct department name can matter as much as the street line, because that is what moves the parcel once it is inside the building.

What do I put in the country field when shopping online?

No two sellers or couriers use the same form. Some systems list North Cyprus as a separate country or region; some want Türkiye selected plus the Mersin 10 line; some sellers do not ship to North Cyprus at all.

How do I find my local postcode?

Use the Postal Department’s official “Postcodes” page. Knowing the district name may not be enough on its own, as codes can differ between settlements within the same district.

The district name used in a property listing may also not be written the same way as the settlement name on a postal address. For a home you have just moved into, match up these three records:

A map pin is not a substitute for a postal address. It helps the courier find you; it does not fill in the street and number the official form is asking for.

Why does a phone number on the parcel matter?

Street signs, building numbers and local directions are not always clear enough at the moment of delivery. A current phone number makes it much easier for the carrier to reach you. It does not repair an incomplete address, though — the two work together, not instead of each other.

If you write the number in international format, keep the +90 392 landline or +90 5xx mobile form used in North Cyprus exactly as the organisation gave it. Do not invent a sample number and present it as if it belongs to a real person.

If I write Mersin 10, is the parcel delivered in Mersin?

No. The recipient’s full address is in North Cyprus, and the Mersin 10 line does not move the physical delivery point to Mersin. What can differ is the transport and customs route the item takes, depending on the seller, the carrier and the type of shipment.

Keep the postal address and the tax or customs outcome separate in your head. You cannot draw a general rule of the form “if I write Mersin 10, I will or will not pay this duty”. Current information comes from the Department of Customs and Excise and from your carrier.

How should I record my address when I move into a new home?

Build one “address card” and keep it. Store the Turkish lines, the English lines if you need them, the postcode, the description of the building, the map link and the phone number as separate fields. Then copy whichever fields the bank, university, insurance or courier form asks for.

Knowing what Mersin 10 is does not mean you know the whole address. Correct delivery still rests on the street, the door, the flat, the settlement and the postcode.
